Sail on towards the cultural development of the Acadian Islands!

In May 2008, a provincial cultural development planning project was launched in Petit-Rocher. This first initiative resulting from the États généraux des arts et de la culture dans la société acadienne (Summit on arts and culture) brought very interesting talks about the action and development of our communities. Culture is a very important part of the general development of rural communities. This cultural development planning pilot project in place in three different areas of the province is an excellent way of testing pilot projects and to implement a concrete approach accompanied by appropriate tools.

A cultural development project is an important part of regional development as a whole. We believe that this project contributes to the attractiveness of the area and is an integral part of economic and sustainable development. It is as well a great way of uniting citizens together towards a better future for its area.

The Conseil provincial des sociétés culturelles (Cultural societies provincial association) is managing this one-year project, with Line Godbout as its project manager. She supervises all three projects in the province.

Acadian Islands (Lamèque and Miscou)

The 2009 World Acadian Congress was the incentive for gathering several people from the islands to exchange ideas on the artistic and cultural needs of the area. The Town of Lamèque plays an active part in this and wishes to promote even more artistic and cultural events such as the International Baroque Music Festival. The economic and social impact of a festival like that is very important, not only for the islands, but also for the Acadian Peninsula and the province.

We believe that our pilot project will give our region many short, middle and long-term advantages.
