Water and wind sports
Windsurfing and kiteboard
Our Islands have 14 surface sites for beginners, intermediate and advanced boarders; calm water, "bump & jumps", surf and breaking waves from 1 to 4m. Get the Shippagan-les-Îles Windsurf Club map for more information. For a brief overview on windsurf sites, refer to the centre map.
Water and wind sports
Due to its geography, at the eastern tip of the Acadian Peninsula, where the Bay of Chaleur and the Gulf of Saint Lawrence meet, Lamèque, Shippagan and Miscou have numerous bodies of water giving lots of opportunities for water sports fanatics. And by its Southern warm currents moving North come spring and summer and its colder currents coming from Labrador during fall and winter, the wind blows often and strong enough to enjoy wind sports year round.
Windsurfing
Windsurfing is very popular around here, even with the growing popularity of kiteboard. One can have more information about the sport by contacting the Club Wind & Kite and its owner Éric Girard, a world-class athlete.
Kiteboard
Getting more and more popular by the hour, kiteboard gives a sensation of freedom for everyone. Two centres in the area offers training for beginners and advanced kiteboarders.
La Fête des vents / Windfest
This annual event welcomes windsurfing and kiteboard enthusiasts from Québec, Ontario, the Maritimes and elsewhere. In one weekend, it’s possible to learn the basics of these two sports and take part in many various activities. The Fête des vents / Windfest is always on the weekend closer to June 24th (Saint John the Baptist Day).
